The Man In The Mirror
Over the last week there has been a real sense of loss sweeping the globe. There was the death of actress, Farrah Fawcet and also the highly publicized death of the King of Pop Michael Jackson. I was thinking the other day as I watched some of the TV press on both individuals, that it doesn't matter what you have accomplished in your life - there is only two things that bind us all together in one way - we are born and then we die!
There is one line, in one of my favorite Michael Jackson classics "The Man in the Mirror". It says, "If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and make a change."
But my thoughts are, before you can change the World, we must change how we see ourselves and develop a positive self image of who we are. It's time we stop judging ourselves by the standards of society, TV, sports icons and anyone who thinks or looks like the current standard barrier of hope, happiness, and success. We are finding out now that everything that seems to work for everyone else clearly doesn't have a happy ending.
So be the architect for your own painting.
Self-esteem is how you see yourself as a person. If you value the type of person you are, you have a good sense of self-esteem and you're proud to be you. You value your skills and talents, respect your own intelligence and act on your beliefs and feeling. But if you could feel better about yourself, these tips might give you some ideas about how to start.
Listen To Self-Talk
We all carry on a steady mental dialogue. Do you ever put yourself down or call yourself names? Learn to listen to the things you say about yourself and then replace that dialogue with positive images. Stop negative self-talk at the source to take the first step toward a more positive self-image.
Be Tolerant
Be Tolerant of yourself and others. Nobody's perfect. Try not to criticize yourself or other people habitually and don't expect others to criticize you. Recognize that a mistake is only a mistake and don't dwell on it.
Know Good Friends
Spend time with people who value you. Listen to what they say about you and welcome their open, honest thoughts. People you choose to be around are often mirrors of how you feel about yourself. You can find the best in yourself and others if you expect it!
Next time you look in the Mirror look for the good in you!!!
